Vacancy: Urban Programs Officer (East Asia)

Responsibilities

§  Overall responsibility for developing urban programs in line with ICLEI’s 10 urban agendas* the East Asia Region

§  Positioning ICLEI’s programs vis-à-vis local governments and institutions in the region

§  Willingness to engaging with private sector on sustainable initiatives

§  Seeking for opportunities to resource ICLEI’s programs and projects in the East Asia region

§  Organizing and ensuring the implementation of projects

§  Working in close cooperation and coordination with ICLEI’s Global Program Coordinators and ICLEI’s country offices in the region

Requirements

The Urban Programs Officer shall:

§  be rooted in the East Asia region and have lived in one or more East Asian countries (Korea, China, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Mongolia) for a minimum of six years;

§  have an excellent command of the English language and at least one national language of an East Asian country;

§  have a degree in urban infrastructures such as energy, transportation, water, environment, urban planning, civil engineering, economics, climate change or another subject relevant to the position;

§  have at least one year of work experience in a relevant field, ideally including professional experience in a country other than the home country;

§  ideally have project exposure in areas of air quality, climate change mitigation/adaptation, energy, green economy, and/or transportation; and

§  possess sound knowledge in sustainable development, infrastructure and/or technologies, and ideally skills on quantitative analysis.

Terms and conditions

§  The position is available immediately at the ICLEI East Asia Secretariat in Seoul, South Korea. The initial contract will be 12 months (including a probationary period of three months) with the option of extension beyond 12 months.

• International travel will be required; communication with partners around the world may require work during unusual hours.

§  Workings hours: 40 hours per week; 20 days of paid leave per year.

§  Working languages: English and East asian language(Chinese, Korean, Mongolian)

§  Applicants must be eligible to obtain the appropriate work permit for the Republic of Korea prior to the start of the position.
